Mizuho Kusanagi has written and illustrated a manga called Akatsuki no Yona or Yona of the Dawn. This shoujo anime has been converted into an anime. Pierrot has adapted the manga and the series has aired on 7th October 2014. The series is directed by Kazuhiro Yoneda and the last episode was released back in 2015. Funimation has gotten involved and as a result, the anime is available for streaming in North America. There is even a dubbed version.
What is the story about?
The plot is focused on Yona, the princess of Kouka. Kouka is ruled by King Ii, Yona’s strict father. The princess lives quite a sheltered life. She is guarded against the horrors outside the walls by her bodyguard Hak. But the peaceful shelter is not built to last.
Yona’s love interest Soo-Won comes to her sixteenth birthday party intending to murder the King. When Yona goes to visit her father, determined to convince him of her love for Soo-Won, she finds her father being killed by Soo-Won. Under these circumstances, Yona and Hak have no option but to flee Kouka. The series follows Yona and Hakas they travel to save the kingdom of Kouka.
The tale of betrayal and vengeance will surely keep the viewers entertained.
What about the new season?
Well, there is no confirmed date for the renewal so fans can’t do much except guessing. The manga for Akatsuki No Yona is still ongoing, so there will be no dearth for the material. Perhaps the next season will be released next year. Sometimes, renewal of the anime shows happens a lot of years after the last season’s release. There is no reason to fret about cancellation just yet.
Meanwhile, Non-Japanese fans can enjoy the existing episodes by watching a dubbed version. It is available in Funimation. Viewers can also go on Crunchyroll for the original audio and English subtitles.
The cast of the show includes voice actors of all the major characters.
• Yona by Monica Rial
• Son Hak by Christopher Sabat
• Su-Won by Micah Solusod
• Yun by Clifford Chapin
