Originally Big Little Lies was a novel by Liane Moriarty. The popular American drama series of the same name is based on that book. The show is created by David E. Kelly and it premiered on HBO. The first season came out on 19th February 2017. The show is famous and has critical acclaim. The writing, directing, the cinematography is all praised by the critics. What’s the story behind it?
The series tells the story of five women who live in Monterey, California. Their seemingly perfect lives encounter a disruption when a single mother moves to their town. The new-in-town Jane is taken care of by Madeline and Celeste. But no one could have realized how her arrival would change their lives. The show tackles class divide with a twist of murder and mischief. The story is told from three perspectives, Madeline, Celeste, and Jane. The story explores the apparent perfectness and romanticization of friendship, marriage, sex, and parenting. Season 2 showed a confrontation between Mary Louise and Celeste. Madeline and Celeste also had a conversation about how the “Monterey Five” is bonded by lies. The ending of the second season seemed quite final.
So, will it return?
Many people believed that season 2 just wasn’t as strong as Season 1. The cast of Big Little Lies consists of some of the busiest actresses in Hollywood. Casey Bloys, the HBO’s president of programming, wasn’t too optimistic about another season. He said that it just wasn’t realistic in an interview, back in July this year. But maybe there’s still hope. If the cast could manage their schedules, season 3 could still happen.
