HBO and Sky UK have created the miniseries named “Chernobyl”.Craig Mazin has written and directed the series. As the name suggests, this how is about the disastrous Chernobyl incident of 1986 in April. The show also focuses on the effort of cleanups that inevitably followed the disaster. The show has only one season with five parts. It made its debut on 6th May 2019 and has had critical acclaim. The show has also won awards for Outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Writing. Even though exhaustive research has been done for the construction of “Chernobyl”, some creative liberties were taken for this drama. People who have actually lived through this disaster have pointed out the discrepancies.
What is the story about?
As mentioned before this series dramatizes the events of the Chernobyl disaster in the Soviet Union. The show documents the narratives of the people who had caused the disaster as well as the people who had to deal with it afterward. Chernobyl is successful in bringing the spotlight to the lesser-known events of the disaster, which includes the stories of the firefighters, who happened to be the very first responders. The show draws inspiration from the book called “Voices of Chernobyl” written by Svetlana Alexievich.
What about the second installment?
It will be very disappointing for the fans to know that there will be no second season of “Chernobyl”. Creator Craig Mazin has always imagined this series to be close-ended and he responded with a definite no when he was asked about any possibility of another season. He had already announced this piece of information, via Twitter, before the finale was released. He had said that the viewers have already experienced the hardest part and that there will be o more guns or death. This show will remain a great example of compassion for the victims and the sufferers of the disaster.
