Ikebukuro West Gate Park: Plot

Ikebukuro West Gate Park (IWGP) is based on urban mystery books written by Ira Ishida. Tsutsumi Yukihiko adapted this into a TV series. Later, Digital Manga Publishing published it as a Manga series.  Meanwhile, Doga Kobo premiered in October 2020 a live TV series adaptation.

In addition, the series is about Makoto, a twenty-year-old who often goes against his own judgment in highly dangerous situations. Shun, Masa, and Takashi, the iconic leader of Ikebukuro’s local gang, have their most famous buddies. The manga follows the TV series loosely with the same story arc, but with less emphasis on intergang tensions. Volume One’s sequel was also made along with the TV series. The series was initially of four volumes.

Makoto, 21, is a friend of King, a Youth Band Leader called ‘the G- Boys’. He lives in an area known for his youth crime but does not want to be a member. He himself is a friend. Known for his cool head and his ability to do things, Makoto is a main troublemaker for the gang by spreading tense situations and keeping his friends out of the way. However, Makoto is threatened by his girlfriend’s death and an increasing tumult with the rival gang.
