Malcolm and Marie

Malcolm and Marie is an upcoming black and white American dramatic film written and directed by Sam Levinson. The main characters in the film are Zendaya and John David Washington. The film was announced after becoming the first feature film to be fully written, funded and secretly shot during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Malcolm and Marie are expected to hit theaters in January 2021 before being digitally released by Netflix on February 5, 2021.

Premise

When director Malcolm (John David Washington) and his girlfriend Marie (Zendaya) come home from the film premiere waiting for a critical reaction to the film, night falls, during which revelations about their relationship emerge and test the couple’s love. .

Production

Levinson and Zendaya were involved at the time in the HBO Euphoria incident, which has postponed creation due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and the two examined the likelihood and impression of undertaking a characteristic movie project during the epidemic. Levinson did several Zendaya projects, including a psychological thriller film made in his house. Then he began to develop “real-time links.” He began writing screenplays for Malcolm and Marie. Based on his own experience, he forgot to thank his wife Ashley Levinson for the premiere of his film Killing Nation.

Filming

With permission from the Writers Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, and the Directors Guild of America, the film begins main production from 17 June to 2 July. The photos are all from Caterpillar House, a private residence in Carmel, California. The crew included many members of Euphoria’s crew, including cameraman Marcel Reve and production designer Michael Grassley. Washington and Zendaya both were accountable for their own make-up and selecting their own clothings as there were no composition artists or clothes architects on bunch. No more than 12 people are allowed on the set at the same time. Production must also be kept very limited so that sound and crew can remain undisturbed during filming. This film was recorded on 35mm black and white film.

Release Date

In September 2020, Netflix acquired the distribution rights for the film for $ 30 million, ahead of companies such as HBO, A24 and Searchlight Pictures. The film is scheduled to open on February 5, 2021 after a theater show at selected theaters in January.
