The story revolves around four cardinal heroes. These heroes are the common men, who got elected to greater power after being directed to the kingdom of Melromarc. The kingdom of Melromarc needed saviors. The country suffered from Waves of Catastrophe, which uprooted everyone living there. These four chosen heroes, yield different weapons. These heroes possess a sword, spear, bow, and shield. Naofumi Iwatani becomes the shield-bearer. His comrades and villagers mock him due to his lack of an offensive weapon. Initially, Malty Melromarc agrees to train with him. But she betrays him by accusing him of taking advantage of her. This lets down the reputation of Naofumi very severely. He then decides to let out on his own to train. Naofumi buys a demi-human slave named Raphtalia, to follow him in his adventure.
Soon Naofumi and Raphtalia team up together to fight the ill-fate of the kingdom of Melromarc.

The first season of the show proved to be a success for the creators of the show. The pilot season managed to gather an impressive count of viewership. Looking at the success of the show, the creators announced the release of season 2. The date is not yet out.
