For anyone who is a fan of crime dramas and documentaries, Netflix has a new treat coming up soon. An upcoming documentary will probe the case of Marisela Escobedo Ortiz. She was a brave woman who devoted her life to bring justice to her dead daughter. Her only mission was to catch the murderer who killed her daughter.
The show entitled “The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo” will be releasing on Netflix. The audience might get interested to hear the tale of a woman who refused to let her daughter’s killer go uncaptured. Letting that happen would be the same as agreeing to let her daughter be just a number or statistic.
The story behind it all
It all started in 2008 when a 16-year-old girl called Rubi Frayre was reported missing. Nobody knew where she was and the police searched for her for a long time indeed. In the end, she was found dead. And it was a terrifying sight to see a young girl burnt to ashes. Her body was dismembered and found in the trash in Ciudad Juarez. Both of her parents had their suspicion of her boyfriend named Sergio Rafael Barraza Bocanegra. Even though he was arrested and he even confessed but he was released. This happened due to the lack of evidence. This incident was traumatizing to her mother but she didn’t back down. Marisela organized many protests structured against the state authorities of Chihuahua. It was the passionate and defiant protests that brought the attention of the whole world to this case.
After that, the circuit court made the decision to overturn the acquittal. As a result, Barraza was announced guilty but he was a fugitive by then.
In 2010, Marisela was brutally killed by a shot in the head. This occurred during a peaceful vigil, which was organized for her daughter. A car came in and after some altercation, a masked man shot Marisela. Even though she survived the initial attack, she couldn’t hold on to her life and passed away in the hospital later on.
