There are few people in the world who didn’t enjoy Thomas & Friends when they were kids. This British series was based on the book series called “The Railway Series” by Rev. Wilbert Awdry. Fortunately, they had decided to create an animated series and make the book come to life. The show is created by Britt Allcroft. The show goes way back to 1989 and it was first premiered on Shining Time Station in the United States. As every kid knows, the show is based on cartoon locomotive as they go through their life on the imaginary island of Sodor. The main character, called Thomas is the most recognizable character from the series.
What is happening now?
The popular streaming network Netflix has decided to buy the rights to Thomas & Friends. Before that, the show had a platform on Nickelodeon. There is permission for a new season for Thomas & Friends and it will mark the 75th anniversary of the series. Many specials are also being planned. The new writer for the series is going to be David Stoten. He will be replacing Andrew Brenner. The format of the upcoming 24th Season will not follow the previous formats. Before, the seasons used to have a 50-50 break between Sodor episodes and episodes based on international countries. Now, the new season will have only 5 international episodes, with each episode focusing on one specific country. The rest of the episodes will be free to be centered aroundSodor. Season 23 came out on 15th March 2020.
When will season 24 come out?
Netflix will have season 24 on 1st September 2020. The viewers from Canada and the United States will be able to enjoy these new episodes this year. But, before the release on Netflix, Thomas & Friends will air on Channel 5. Interestingly, the very first episode of season 24 is called “Royal Engine” and it is already available for the audience in the US as it is a special episode.
When will viewers in India get to see it?
Unfortunately, that is not known for sure yet. The schedule of release has been haphazard and there is no guarantee of when the Indian viewers might get to watch Thomas & Friends.
